Collectors and chip music aficionados can now
get 'Weapons of Past Distractions' in it's original format -
the Atari 2600 cartridge!
Just pop it in your Atari, switch it on, and rock out!
An electric plaid of colors and patterns washes over you
while 2 channels of 1-bit monaural sound assaults your ears.
The 5:33 long song cycle loops seamlessly for eternity -
There is no escape!
Plays best on NTSC TVs. The 2600 console switches control play/pause, rewind, fast-forward and a hidden easter-egg remix bug.
Includes unlimited streaming of Weapons of Past Distractions
via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.
This song was a challenging labor of love written for my first video game system, the Atari 2600 VCS. Game programmers for the classic system worked intensely within constricting limitations crafting compelling games that fueled the imagination. In my youth, I spent countless hours fighting the enemies they created which existed more in the mind than were apparent in the pixels on the screen. I later found that this observation easily applies to real life.
With 'Weapons of Past Distractions' I wanted to try to capture that life lesson in song with a bombastic drum and bass track that pushed the limits of the Atari 2600.
The 10 year anniversary of this project is coming up; time for a proper release. This 'Digital Album' presents 'W.O.P.D' in a dynamic stereo remastered version available for download. The 2 channel, 1-bit audio was captured straight from the original cartridge via a stereo-modified Atari 2600 and then painstakingly edited into a multi-tracked format for further processing. For purists and collectors, a small amount of the original Atari 2600 cartridges is also available.
